These newborn size baby hats are quick to make because they use worsted weight yarn. The name comes from the type of ribbing used.

Materials: #6 (4.0 mm) needles, 1ounce worsted weight yarn (examples were made with Red Heart Econo Baby yarn colors #1802 Baby Blue, #1722 Lt. Pink, and #1682 Baby Green) large eye sewing needle

Gauge: 11 sts, 14 rows = 2 inches in st st

CO 59 sts

*k2, p2. Rep from * across row to last 3 sts, k2, p1

Rep this row 10 more times

Work 27 rows in st st beginning with a purl row

Dec for top:

Row 1: k6, k2tog, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1

Row 2 and all even rows: purl

Row 3: *k5, k2tog, rep from * to last st, k1

Row 5: *k4, k2tog, rep from * to last st, k1

Row 7: *k3, k2tog, rep from * to last st, k1

Continue decreasing till there are 9 sts

Cut yarn and draw through sts.

Finishing:

Sew seam, fold up ribbing
